One Cool Gift

For Taytum's Birthday her Nana and Pops sent this really cool gift in a really big bag...
IT'S A LADYBUG!But not just any ladybug! If you squish it's tummy it makes a funny honking sound!
Even Regan joined in the fun!

Oh, it also seems to double as a great pillow...

or so Regan says!

On The Phone

A favorite thing of Taytum's is to talk on the phone. She'll talk to anyone for very extended periods of time! Most of the time I feel sorry for the person on the other end!
And this is what Regan looks like while Taytum is on the phone! Ha ha ha ha!
OK, and though it looks like Regan is covering her ears and saying, "Enough already!" she's actually signing the word 'phone' while her sister talks!

T's Birthday

Not much of an event on the actual day of Taytum's birthday. It was Mother's Day this year, and the day was spent at home. Here are some pics of the '4 yr-old' gifts...

The ever popular Crocs! Notice the gibbits...princess T! ha ha ha!
A Cinderella music box...
a new big girl bike!!!!...
a cinderella puzzle...
and a T (tennessee) chair!
"Oh my gosh! It's my birthday!"
Complete with Scooby Doo cupcakes!

Conversations With Taytum

While a lot of grumbling seems to go on in our house as I have my battles with my strong-as-ever-willed child, she says some halarious things. Check these out...

**********************************************************************************
We were riding in the car after a soccer camp that Taytum attended. The time of the camp was not the greatest...right around dinner time... On the last day we decided we'd get a 'treat' for dinner, so we were headed to Culvers...

Mom: Man, I'm hungry!

Tay: Me too!

Mom: I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!

Tay: I'm so hungry I could even eat a sheep!

**********************************************************************************
One night we were in our PJs at an unusually early time...we were actually in our PJs while we ate dinner!!!...

Tay: WOW, Mommy...those are some really nice pajamas! I really like those! How old are you again?

Mom: 27 (ha ha ha ha ha)

Tay: OK, well, when I'm 27, I'm gonna have pajamas just like those because those are really nice and I really like them!

**********************************************************************************
A trip to the bank is SO exciting because Taytum gets a sucker while we are there. This time we went to the bank with the drive-thru, but we were still able to get the 'requested' color of the trip, which was orange. The suckers have always been kinda cool because there is a letter on one side and a number on the other. When Taytum was learning her letters and numbers this was an added incentive. Anyway...

Tay: Mom, did we get orange?

Mom: Yes Tay.

Tay: COOL! I KNEW we could get orange if we just asked!

Mom: mmm-hmmm.

Tay: Can I eat it now?

Mom: Just a sec while I open it. Oh, how cool! Wait until you see what's on it!

Tay: What? What? OOOOOOHHHHHH...there's a "T" on one side and a "3" on the other! That is SO cool, Mom!!

Mom: Yup. The only thing cooler is if there was a "T" and a "4" on it!

Tay: No worries Mom, I can fix that. Just let me get out my magic wand. Where did I put that thing? Oh, here it is, I found it. OK...bipitty, bobitty, boop, orange number 4 come out now! Orange number 4 appear! Check it out, Mom! See the number 4? Can you see it? Isn't that cool?

Mom: That's pretty cool, Tay.

Tay: Yeah, my magic wand is awesome!

Regan Walks

Sometime in April Regan left all 4s for the 2 the rest of us use. She took steps here and there for quite some time but never took on walking fully. I guess with her being the 2nd child I didn't mark down the exact date she started walking. Poor Regan! But here she is walking and enjoying her favorite beverage (she actually prefers it to food as well!). And why do the outfits look so much cuter once they start walking??? Again, I couldn't resist the yellow 'crocs!'

Notice our dog, Maddy, trailing close behind in the 2nd picture. Maddy has learned that Regan will sometimes drop the bottle, which will spill a little milk. Maddy is always there to help clean up!

The Dump Truck

No big piles of dirt here, but that's because we just haven't taken it outside yet!! Our dump truck has provided our girls with lots of entertainment INside!

Taytum and Regan take turns riding in the back...
Taytum loves to push Regan. Here's Regan battling one of her bouts of sickness this winter/spring. Taytum helped out by cheering her up when she could. That thing in Regan's mouth...that's her Jerry!
Taytum is perfecting the art of moving herself around in the dump truck. She sits in the back and turns the wheels with her hands. She's quite proud of herself when she can make a full lap in the kitchen!
Sheer determination!!!
I wonder what would happen if we DID take the dump truck outside!

Two Chefs

Here are our two chefs! Ever since Taytum was little she has loved helping in the kitchen. I asked her the other day if I were to go to the library and get some books, what is she interested in learning about...dinosaurs, bugs, dogs, jungle animals? Her response..."Baking!" She helps with dinner every chance she gets and she is always pretend cooking in her own little kitchen. It looks like her little sister might follow in the same footsteps!

Swim Lessons

We don't have a pool we go to all the time in the summer, so I like to put Taytum in swimming lessons. She has taken lessons every summer except for the year Regan was born. You may think she's a pro, but she's far from it. As you can see from the picture below, she's not too fond of having any water on her face.

This teacher has gotten her to do more than any of the others. Its just too bad we can't have Miss Jenny all the time!
Taytum does have a good time, she's just aprehensive of water anywhere above her shoulders!! We will press on and hope for the best!

Bonks and Baskets

One day Regan was playing in the dining room and found out that a table cloth doesn't catch your fall very well. Check out the BONK she got on her forhead. Oh, that's the bag of ice she is chewing on...lot of good that did.
But nothing makes you forget you smashed your head like a good ride in the laundry basket!

(again, T and her mis-matched pjs! crazy kid!)

Food

Why is it so funny when little ones end up with food on their face?
I just couldn't resist!!
Do you think she knows?

Peek-A-Boo

Nothing like a little game of peek-a-boo in the car to kill some time!!!

With a raspberry at the end!!! Hee hee hee!

Sisters

Sometimes there's nothing sweeter...

Miss Match (NOT)

I have a crazy daughter who loves mis-matched pjs! Here are a few of her sporting her own fashion statement...

Bird Feeder

When I was pregnant with Blake I used to sit outside in the mornings and enjoy a cup of tea. One of the things I loved about sitting outside was seeing and listening to all the different birds. For mother's day the following year Rob bought me a bird feeder for the deck so we could attract and enjoy the birds more.
This year it was time to get a new birdfeeder and Taytum got to join Daddy in setting it up and filling it with food for the first time...
Now it sits right outside our kitchen door so we can enjoy the birds while we eat. Taytum has gotten to know many of the different types of birds that come to feed.
One day while on the phone with my mom, Taytum starts to name off the different types of birds we see...cardinal, goldfinch, cow birds, grackels, chicadees... so my mom asks how she knows the names of all these birds. Taytum says, "I'm a bird scientist!"

Here is a picture of Regan that I couldn't resist!!! Sometimes those lone diaper pics are the best!

Easter

This year when we woke up on Easter morning we saw...

Needless to say, the Easter Bunny chose to hide eggs in the house!

A few of the 'favs' that were left for the girls...
a dinosaur and light thingy for the Reganator...
...and what else but Scooby Doo figures for T!!!!
Too cute!!!
Later that day everyone came over for some fun with the family!

Though you can't see it in these two pictures, the cousins were all playing volleyball with a balloon. The pink thing in the middle of the floor is the barrier for each team. Notice Taytum playing with her bunny ears on and in action!

A fun day was had by all! Happy Easter everyone!

Some of This, Some of That

The goings on of the Scarborough household sometimes do not let me post as many pictures as I like. Heck, a lot of times I don't even get to TAKE pictures! But I thought it might be fun to just give a 'here and there' of what's been happening...

REGAN...

Well, Regan FINALLY got another tooth. This would be tooth #3. I think it broke through on Saturday, April 12th? Some day around there. Amazing! She's just over a year and just broke through #3. I keep waiting for more teeth so that she can eat more food!

Last week Regan and I took a nice little mother-daughter trip to the emergency room. It was about 2am Tuesday, April 8th. She had been having a runny nose all weekend and on Monday I called to make her a dr appt. just to get it checked out. Well, that night/morning she woke up around 1:30am not breathing quite right. I was trying hard not to freak out. I called the dr's exchange and was told to sit with her in the bathroom and run the hot shower. The steam is supposed to help. We also have a nebulizer (breathing machine) from when she was sick with RSV (and Taytum with pnumonia), so the nurse told me to give her a breathing treatment as well and she would call back in 30 minutes. I had a feeling it was croupe. Regan wasn't coughing, but each time she tried to breathe, it was sort of like a barky gasp. Super scary. I was pretty calm until the nurse told me to keep an eye on her lips because if they turned blue she needed to go to the ER right away. TOTAL FREAK OUT then! So I gave her the treatment while Rob held her in the bathroom. I couldn't wait. I wanted to take her to the hospital. I called a friend of mine who is a pediatric nurse just to find out where to take Regan. She confirmed where I wanted to take her, and off we went. Regan and I spent about 2 hours at the ER. She is such a trooper. She had a different type of breathing treatment as well as a steroid. Then they let us be for a while so she could rest. That was nice, but Regan cannot rest while someone is holding her!!! She must have her own space. So we just sort of 'wrestled' and rested in the bed. They checked her out about an hour later and she was sent home. She has been fine ever since. She was clingy for a few days but never really acted sick. And now she's back to her happy-go-lucky self!

The walking is still not a go yet. She will take a few steps here and there, but that's about it. I think that it's not a fast enough form of transportation for her yet. She'd rather crawl and get to things faster. The heck with that walking stuff!!

Funny story about her Jerry... Jerry is a little giraffe head that is attached to a blanket. I'm sure you've seen something like it. They have a TON of them for babies. Well, this one was given to us by Rob's friend, Jerry, so that's where we got the name. Regan has slept with this for most of her short life. Well, I had bought another one because the first one had started to stink quite a bit even after many washings. Regan does not and will not take a pacifier, so she sucks and chews on Jerry's ears and horns. Even Jerry #2 (which I would wash and swap out weekly with the Original Jerry) started to stink!! I found another Jerry at Target, but the blanket was a different color (green instead of yellow). Surely at the age of one Regan would not know the difference. She didn't. And I actually bought two so that I would have an ample supply to rotate through. Background complete... Regan and I are in Target the other day. It was about nap time so I was doing my best to get what I needed and get us home. All of a sudden Regan spits out her bottle and starts crying. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong with her...hurt, sick, what??? But it was then that I saw what she saw...Jerry...just hanging there with about 10 others. I tried to distract and move on. It didn't work. Regan sobbed and sobbed like she had NEVER done before. And so I did what I thought I would never find myself doing...I CAVED...and bought another Jerry. So now we have 5.

TAYTUM...

Taytum still goes to preschool 2x a week and loves it. I know she would go every day if she could. And I know I would send her every day if I could! :o) She gets excited when I tell her she gets to go 3x a week next year and then EVERYDAY the year after that! I sometimes wonder if she likes school or just likes the break from Mom? Sigh.

This week Taytum is going to start dance class with her friend, Abby. She is super excited. I will have to update and take pictures to post. But that might be a bit hard...Dad is going to be taking the girls because dance is on a night when I have soccer practice. What a guy! I know Taytum will have a blast. She loves to put on her little black dress shoes (which she calls her dancing shoes) and dance around the house. She often asks Rob or me, "Would you like to ballet with me?" Too stinkin' cute! The class should be a riot!

Taytum finished up her first round of swimming lessons and is ready to move up to the next level. She will take her swimming lessons on her own while Regan and I are in the pool for Regan's lessons. I'm crazy, I know!

Taytum's interest right now is in Scooby Doo. She got turned onto the show when her dad let her watch it one night while I must have been out at soccer practice. I was worried that some of the ghosts and things would scare her. Nope. She loves it! She got some Scooby Doo figures for Easter and I took her out so she could buy the Mystery Machine with her own money! She wants everything Scooby...books and even a birthday party...but I've already got the party in the works, so that isn't happening!

Taytum still LOVES books, drawing and coloring. She has been itching to get outside with the horrible weather we've had all winter and spring. She likes to play soccer in the family room with either Rob or myself. But she loves just playing...dancing around, singing and playing make believe.

KELLY...

I am trying to get back into soccer again. I'm playing on an indoor team with some of the girls I went to high school with. It's OK. I have fun and it keeps me running and touching the ball, so I guess that's all good!

ROB...

Working and plodding along! Rob has been working with a friend of ours to get our landscaping redone out front as well as add a nice little stone patio to the back of the house. He wants a waterfall as well. It seems as if it will turn out nice. It will be cool when we have a place to hang out down there with the girls. We have our deck, but being down there with the girls able to run around the yard will be nice. Rob is also working on sorting things out in the basement because I'm sure that will be the next thing we need to get done. We're already overflowing with toys!

FAMILY...

Not much else is happening. I think with two little ones around that seems like all there is time for! We all packed up and rented a mini van for the weekend. We were headed to Tennessee for a soccer tournament. We were 1/2 way there and got a phone call that the whole darn thing was cancelled! Bummer! It would have been a fun weekend, but we spent it at home instead.

And that is our life as of late!

Some More Firsts

First Steps!!!

OK, so I don't have a picture, but Regan has taken some of her first steps! The first ones were yesterday while Taytum was in the pool for swimming lessons. I was walking around with Regan...you know, she was walking and I was behind her holding her hands. We rounded the pool and she saw an overturned bucket that was full of toys. Before I knew it she was off for it! I'd say she took about 4-5 steps on her on before she reached the bucket and braced herself. Then today she has taken a few here and there... I like to stand in front of her and hold her hands, but not let her GRAB on to me. So she'll be walking forward with some help and I'll let go of her hands. She takes about 2-3 on her own and then falls! She's funny because it's like she knows what she's doing! Sometimes she will giggle like crazy once she has done it and other times she flat out stops when I let go of her hands...she'll just lean forward and drop! Crazy girl!

First Words??? Maybe?
For some time we have thought that Regan was saying "night-night" when it was time for bed and/or naps. But she would also make the same "niii-niii" sound when she was talking about our dog, Maddy, or outside. So it was confusing to know if she really knew what she meant. And so Rob and I have been working on the whole "ma ma" thing. I THINK she's onto it!! She's also hitting the separation anxiety thing, so when I leave the room I hear the cries and a bit of "ma ma!" Alas...Rob comes home from work, goes upstairs and what do I hear from Regan?...cries and "ma ma!" So maybe it's not a first just yet!!
